Patrick Desaulnier took home the Winter Fun Series points championship thanks to a strong 2nd place finish at the Figure-8 Race at Irwindale Speedway. The 50 lap race featured plenty of excitement, with the 10 ARCA Menards series cars on track trying to avoid being T-boned at the track’s middle intersection.
Desaulnier edged out Steve Yenisch for the championship by a mere four points. Yenisch made things interesting by winning the series’ final race and racking up the maximum bonus points for leading the most laps, however it wasn’t enough to pull ahead in the standings.
Ray Polking (race winner) and Jesse Bunnell (most incident points accrued) took top billing in the non-points demolition derby exhibition event which followed the season finale. All of the action from Sunday’s season finale can be viewed at Trackside Racing Network!
The Winter Fun Series proved to be a great change of pace for ASL’s competitors, with all four events providing a fun and unique challenge. The preceding three events were a road race at Summit Point Raceway in the Pro2 Lite off-road trucks, a short track clash at Southern National Motorsports Park in the Mazda MX-5s and a Roval challenge in the Cadillac CTS-V cars at Texas Motor Speedway’s road course.
ASL is now off until the Spring 2021 season opener at Daytona on January 3, 2021. The league is recruiting new drivers to join the strong roster of 25+ returning competitors from the Fall 2020 season.
