Todd Cray became a first-time winner in the ASL Elite Series, taking the victory at Five Flags Speedway. Cray led 117 of the 175 laps, and did an incredible job managing a very old set of tires to hold off Todd Guess for the win.
The race was slowed by 10 cautions, including a giant stackup on Lap 1 when outside polesitter Johnny Avila missed a shift at the start. A chain reaction wreck resulted, completely blocking the track and sending several cars to the pits for repairs.
After things settled down, it was looking like the final 73 laps were poised to finish under green, with Cray holding a narrow lead over Johnny Avila in the closing laps. Ultimately, the yellow flew with only a handful of laps remaining, and this jumbled up the running order when several drivers including Avila pitted for tires. In the end, drivers that stayed out for the dash to the finish were rewarded. Guess (career best finish), Joshua Sharif, Hunter Waters and Avila rounded out the Top 5.
