Steve Yenisch Cruises at Atlanta

Polesitter Steve Yenisch led 104 of 125 laps as he crushed the rest of the field at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Yenisch ceded the lead to Hunter Waters for the first 10 laps, but never looked back the rest of the way, only giving up the top spot during green flag pit cycles. It was Yenisch’s second victory, a tie for most among drivers this season. Bentley Glaser, Waters, Adam Matz and Johnny Avila completed the top five finishers.

In the regular season finale for the Elite Series, the 30-car field completed the race with zero cautions, allowing the drivers competing for the final playoff spots an opportunity to earn their spots over long green flag runs. Coming into the race, Kyle Bromir and Levi Poland were tied on the cutline, with Mark Jenkins lurking a few points back. Bromir and Poland would both have lackluster showings, finishing 19th and 20th, respectively. Jenkins was far more competitive, but a green flag pit stop miscue shuffled him to the back of the lead lap, which prevented him from earning enough points to pass Bromir in the standings. Bromir ended up edging out Poland and Jenkins by a single point, securing the 16th and final spot in the playoff grid next week.

The ASL Elite Series Playoffs begins Sunday, March 28 at Dover. With the top 8 drivers guaranteed a spot in the next round, the focus will be on the drivers from 9th through 16th in the bracket. Those drivers will have to race their way in to the second round. Catch all the action live on Trackside!
