Avila Sweeps the Daytona Double

Johnny Avila stole the show at Daytona, winning both events of the Daytona double. The wins were his first of the season, and helped solidify a commanding points lead entering the final race of the regular season.

To start the evening, Avila led all but one lap at the Daytona Road Course and beat Hunter Waters to the line by over two seconds. Adam Matz, newcomer Tyler Saville and Bentley Glaser rounded out the top 5.

To wrap up the night, the Elite Series took to the superspeedway oval for a 40-lap affair. The race was slowed by only one caution, however a near-miss with lapped traffic late in the race shuffled most of the lead pack out of the draft. Avila and Jackson Van Volkinburg pulled away by several seconds, and a photo finish showed that Avila barely nosed out the victory. Steve Yenisch, Joshua Sarif and Glaser completed the top 5.

To wrap up the regular season, the Elite Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway on July 25. Catch the action live on Trackside Racing Network!
