Steve Yenisch Stretches Fuel For Win at Kentucky

After making contact with Jason Mullis on Lap 35, resulting in damage to the right front of his Ford Mustang, Steve Yenisch thought his chance at the win was over. However, the opportunity to top off during a caution with about 50 laps to go gave Yenisch the upper hand. With each of the cars ahead of him on track putting for fuel in the closing laps, Yenisch seized the lead on the final lap and took home his sixth career victory trophy.

The 125-lap race was an uncharacteristically sloppy affair for the ASL Elite Series, with six caution flags flying over the course of the event before the 50 lap run to close out the race. Several front runners were casualties of early wrecks, including Trent Ringler, Patrick Desaulnier and Calum McNicol, each of whom ran in the top 10 for most of the early portions of the race.

Over the final laps of the race, Tyler Saville controlled the race until he was forced to pit with eight laps left. Johnny Avila assumed the lead until 2 laps to go, where he ran out of gas, ceding the lead to Yenisch. Darryn Clement and Bentley Glaser also stretched their fuel to finish in the Top 3. Saville and Hunter Waters closed out the top 5.

The ASL Elite Series head to the West Coast for a double-header at Sonoma and Las Vegas. Catch the races live on Trackside E-Sports on September 26 at 8:30 pm Eastern!
