Bunnell Surges to Talladega Victory

Jesse Bunnell edged out AW Motorsports teammate Tyler Saville at the line to grab his second win of the season at Talladega Superspeedway. The win solidified Bunnell’s position in the Top 3 of the points standings behind Bentley Glaser and Adam Matz.

The 50-lap race at Talladega was a civil affair until a crash triggered when Duane Hunt and Blair Patterson made contact while 4-wide bringing out a caution with 13 laps remaining. The caution bunched up the field behind YenSport Racing teammates Jeff and Steve Yenisch.

The Yenisch brothers looked to be in control in the closing stages until the AW Motorsports train surged in the top lane, eventually taking their group to the front. On the final lap, contact between Derek Pemberton and Johnny Avila caused a huge accident, significantly shuffling the running order as the leaders approached the checkered flag.

Bunnell edged out Saville at the line, with Pemberton, Michael Trevarthen and David Camarra to round out the Top 5.

The Elite Series is off until November 7, with the regular season finale at Phoenix next on the schedule.
