Glaser Surges Late at Iowa for 5th Win and Championship Berth

Bentley Glaser picked up his fifth win of the season at Iowa Speedway, setting a league record for the most victories in a season. Most importantly, he locked himself into the Championship Race at Nashville Superspeedway, joining Johnny Avila as a contender for the championship.

The Race was slowed by only one caution, a spin involving Brett Adams that occurred on Lap 2. After that, the field ran the rest of the event clean and green, with differing pit strategies leading to an interesting cycle of green flag pit stops.

Trent Ringler started from pole, and used a one-stop strategy, stretching his tires for over 70 laps on each run. It took Glaser 147 of the 150 lap race distance to finally catch Ringler and make a pass for the win. For Ringler, it was quite the heartbreak, as he fell just short of his first win of the season.

Many other drivers opted for two pit stops, with several experiencing extreme tire wear during the first green flag run. Playoff contenders Hunter Waters, Jeff Yenisch and Patrick Desaulnier each experienced tire failures, which forced them to pit earlier than planned. Of this trio, only Yenisch was able to recover and transfer to the Round of 8.

Duane Hunt, Tyler Saville and Todd Cray rounded out the Top 5 and will each be in position to claim one of the final two Championship Race spots on Dec. 5 at Texas Motor Speedway. In fact, the entire Top 8 finishing positions ended up being filled by playoff drivers advancing to the next round, with Adam Matz, Jesse Bunnell and Yenisch rounding out the remaining playoff contenders.

The Elite Series is off for Thanksgiving and will return on Dec. 5 at Texas Motor Speedway to determine the final Championship 4.
