Johnny Avila pulled out an exciting win at Kansas Speedway to kick off the Spring 2022 season of the American SimRacing League Elite Series. Avila briefly ceded the lead during the Green-White-Checkered finish to Trent Ringler, but took the lead back on the final lap to seize control.
Ringler led 117 of 128 laps and dominated the early stages of the race until Levi Poland spun with just over a dozen laps remaining, bringing out the caution. This set up an interesting strategy dynamic, with Steve Yenisch taking a fresh set of tires, an advantage that no one else in the field was in position to do.
Yenisch charged through the field and looked poised to possibly pass the leaders in the final laps, but he ultimately was taken out in the closing stages when Tyler Saville and Todd Cray made contact on the backstretch, setting up the two lap sprint to the finish.
Behind the back-and-forth swap for the lead, Jeff Yenisch, Saville and Justin Gann rounded out the Top 5.
The Elite Series next visits Talladega Superspeedway on January 23. Catch the action live on Trackside Racing Network at 8:30 pm Eastern.
