Duane Hunt won for the second time of the season at World Wide Technology Raceway, and secured a coveted spot in the Championship Race on May 15. Hunt will look to defend his championship from last season, with two other prior champions in Bentley Glaser and Johnny Avila joining him in the Championship Four. Todd Cray seeks his first championship after taking the final transfer spot.
Hunt, Johnny Avila and Bentley Glaser were locked in a three-way battle for the race heading into the final pit stop. Avila spun entering the pits, which took him out of contention. Hunt short-pitted Glaser to take a track position advantage that he ultimately never relinquished in the closing laps. Glaser got as close as 0.3 seconds back, but couldn’t find his way around Hunt, who pulled away to a more comfortable advantage at the end. Justin Gann and Adam Matz rounded out the top five.
