Waters Wins at Talladega

Hunter Waters received a push from Johnny Avila to secure his second win of the season at Talladega Superspeedway. Most importantly, he joins Avila in the Championship 4 and will battle for the Elite Series crown in two weeks at Phoenix Raceway.

AW Motorsports was well positioned in the closing laps, with four of the seven drivers in the lead pack consisting of their drivers. YenSport teammates Jeff Yenisch and Steve Yenisch weren’t able to pose a threat without more help, and OutKast Motorsports newcomer Cody Williams was a sitting duck in the closing laps, as the AW train went by on the outside in the final lap to secure the win.

Tyler Saville had a strong race, winning the first stage and finishing third to get back into the championship race. Williams and Jeff Yenisch rounded out the top 5 in the running order.

Adam Matz had another solid showing, finishing 10th but securing much needed stage points. He is in good position to transfer to the Championship 4 next week if he can have a solid showing at Phoenix.

Jeff Yenisch moves into the fourth in the playoff grid, just six points ahead of brother Steve Yenisch for the last spot. Justin Gann and Saville are within striking distance in sixth and seventh, respectively.

It was a disastrous race for Duane Hunt, who was caught in an early accident and finished 8 laps down. He is now in a must win situation at next week’s race at Homestead.
